It’s November and It’s Le mois du Documentaire (the month of the documentary), here in France

So I went to see some projections around town over the past few days
Watched some interesting documentaries about eastern europe countries in L’Univers, it’s a local cinema ran by local associations, each projection is the occasion of debates with the other spectators and/or the director, team behind the project
Saw East Side Story a documentary about communist musicals in URSS and GDR (aka East Germany)

Will try to find an extract and update this post when I do, be prepared :D
Yesterday I went to see an other documentary ; “Squat - La ville est à nous” = “Squatting - The city is ours”, following a group of people squatting in Barcelona (Spain), In Kino Ciné, a screening room part of the Lille 3 University

Here is a map with the location to the two cine :

Went to eat a welsh with a friend, It’s a dish originally from Wales (UK), and now a specialty of the north area of France, and especially from Lille, also known as the capital of the Flanders, my hometown
It’s a simple recipe ; it’s basically a toast with a slice of ham, coated with a melted cheddar and brown beer concoction
I’ve been trying to emulate this recipe for a bit now, will post an easy step by step recipe soon :P
If you went to Barcelona recently and took the subway, you maybe saw some short-films displayed on the screens inside the underground trains
It’s part of the 3rd Metro International Short Film Festival organized by TMB
They made a selection of short films from all around the world and passengers can vote for the film they like the most
Here is a small selection of short films :
Nuisible(s) by Art Fx students (animation and special effect school) France
Meet Buck by Supinfocom Arles students (animation school) France
The Note by John Greenhalgh (producer) and Kelvin Tillinghast (writer) Czech Republic
Signs by Vincent Gallagher Ireland
Here is a funny commercial by BETC Euro RSCG for Canal+ a french tv channel
I’m not so fond of animated animals but some of the lines of this commercial are just classic !
”- I DON’T GIVE A SHIIIIITTTTT !
- BOOM ! Explosion !”
And you can check the previous ad of Canal+, It’s really funny and creative as well
It’s known as “The closet”
Went to see The Adventures of Tintin (the movie) produced in “Performance capture“ and directed by Steven Spielberg
Performance capture ; process of recording movement and translating that movement on to a digital model, performance capture (contrary to motion capture) includes face (and sometimes fingers) and can capture subtle expressions, the actors wear captors to record their facial expressions (see picture below)

The same technology (performance capture) was used in movies like Avatar, and Pirates of the Caribbean
The movie is inspired by the work of Hergé, belgian artist and writer, and the numerous comics he realized of the Adventures of Tintin

And please check this video made by James Curran (SlimJim Studios)
He designed an alternative opening for the movie, and did a really good work, making reference to all the Tintin’s comic strip books

I used to read Tintin comics when I was younger, and really liked them
I also used to watch the animated cartoon on VHS, the cartoon is really true to the comics
Here is the opening of the cartoon, with the famous Tintin theme, it’s a pity this theme wasn’t used in the movie
